Wanoakari × Hyakudan Kaidan 2025 A Gathering of 100s of Onis
July 4 (Fri.)- Sep 23 (Tue.), 2025
Open every day during exhibition period.
Since ancient times, the existence of the “Oni” has been passed down in various forms in Japan.
From the Heian period (794-1185), the term “Oni” was used to refer to epidemics, which were an invisible form of terror, and it was also believed that a series of disappearances of people in the capital were caused by Onis.
In addition, strange and bizarre phenomena that were evil in nature or beyond understanding were thought to be the work of Oni (Yokai), such as referring to unknown races (people from other countries) as “Oni.”
What they all have in common is that they are “different from us.”
The 10th Wanoakari Exhibit will showcase a variety of different interpretations based on the theme of “Oni” in each room.
What will you find at the edge of the world appearing each time you climb the stairs?
Take a moment to look deep inside yourself and question the existence of the Oni in today's world.
